Madison College's regional campuses have been awarded the 2024 Champion in Action Award by the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin (WDBSCW). This recognition honors their efforts in promoting manufacturing training and careers to young people through the Mini Manufacturing World program.
The award acknowledges employers and leaders who excel in creating innovative workforce solutions. Madison College was among nine partners recognized for advancing the K-12 career pathways strategy. Seth Lentz, Executive Director for WDBSCW, noted, “For over 30 years, the Workforce Development Board has celebrated the contributions of workforce partners and leaders who go the extra mile to build strong workforce solutions. This year’s awardees are driving workforce innovation, creating new strategies, and leading with fresh initiatives. Their efforts inspire the next generation of innovators, creators, and leaders in this vital industry.”
Mini Manufacturing World introduces students to manufacturing careers by allowing them to operate a fictional company and experience hands-on industry work. The program includes manufacturing customizable Lego sets and managing simulated workplace situations.
The initiative aims to engage young workers with learning opportunities and insights into manufacturing careers. Last fall, Madison College's Portage Campus hosted its first session with 50 Portage High School sophomores. Due to its success, it will expand to Reedsburg, Wisconsin Dells, and Sauk Prairie School Districts.
Shawna Marquardt, Dean of Regional Campuses at Madison College, expressed pride in receiving the award: “Madison College's regional campuses are proud to receive this award, which highlights our commitment to promoting careers in manufacturing, exploring educational and career pathways, and enhancing awareness of regional opportunities. We look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin and our area manufacturers.”
Upcoming Mini Manufacturing World sessions are scheduled for March 18, March 20, and April 2 at the Portage campus. For more information, contact Madison College-Portage campus at portageoffice@madisoncollege.edu or call 608-745-3100.
