Jake Griebe, a nursing student at Madison College's Reedsburg campus, has been awarded the $2,000 Celebrate a Nurse Scholarship. This scholarship is funded by the annual Celebrate a Nurse 5K Run/Walk, which raises money through sponsors and participants.

Griebe's decision to pursue nursing was influenced by his own experience in an intensive care unit during a health emergency. "I saw and felt the positive impact the nurses had on me and other patients," he said. "I want to be in a position to have the same sort of impact on people and help them when they are in the same situation I was in."

The scholarship will assist Griebe in his education, allowing him to purchase necessary equipment such as a stethoscope that amplifies sounds. This is essential for him due to hearing damage sustained while serving in the United States Marine Corps.

After completing his current program this May, Griebe plans to enroll in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program through the University of Wisconsin system. He aims to work locally in an emergency department or intensive care unit. "My goal is to work in a local emergency department or intensive care unit," he stated.

Linda Spencer, Madison College-Reedsburg Campus Manager, emphasized the importance of events like the 5K Run/Walk: “The annual Celebrate a Nurse 5K Run/Walk not only highlights the importance of nursing but helps support students pursuing this vital profession.”

The community can participate and support future scholarships at this year's event on Saturday, May 3, at Madison College Reedsburg campus.

Madison College-Reedsburg offers various healthcare-focused programs including certified nursing assistant courses and associate degree nursing programs. Students can apply for these programs during both fall and spring semesters.
