Madison College is offering high school students new educational pathways through its Early College programs, resulting in significant tuition savings for families. During the 2023-2024 academic year, the college assisted 4,851 students in earning college credits before graduating from high school.
The majority of these students, 83%, participated in dual credit courses offered at their high schools. Meanwhile, 255 students took classes full-time at a Madison College campus. Collectively, these efforts resulted in the accumulation of 20,848 credits.
Several school districts have shown notable increases in student participation. Lake Mills reported a growth rate of 408%, Poynette saw an increase of 208%, and Columbus experienced a rise of 100% in the number of students earning college credit.
The program has provided financial relief to families with an estimated $3.5 million saved on tuition costs. This is particularly relevant given current economic conditions and highlights the broader economic impact of such educational initiatives.
Students can choose from various opportunities at Madison College. Dual credits involve Madison College courses taught by qualified high school teachers within local schools. Full-time options are available through STEM Academy and Education Academy at Madison College campuses. The Early College Academies offer courses that lead to college or industry credentials while still in high school. Students have found success learning skills in fields like nursing, early childhood education, biotechnical laboratory support assistance, emergency medical response, and more.
Madison College’s dual enrollment programs aim to enhance access to higher education for marginalized or underserved students. High school juniors and seniors interested in enrolling must submit their Start College Now applications by March 1 for the fall semester and October 1 for the spring semester.
