The Board of Education meeting held on February 10, 2025, included several key discussions and decisions. Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue opened the meeting by acknowledging the retirement of several staff members at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. "Together, these educators have dedicated over 330 years of service," she stated.

Dr. Monogue also praised the Middleton High School cast and crew for their production of "Twelfth Night."

The board is currently seeking additional members for its Negotiations Committee as it prepares to enter collective bargaining with the Middleton Education Association. Bob Green, Marni Ginsberg, and Sheila Hibner are already part of this committee due to their roles on the Handbook Committee.

Director of Finance and Operations Erin Wheeler discussed the Banking Services RFP process from November 2024. After reviewing three proposals, Ampersand, Inc. was recommended as the main depository for 2024-2029. Lake Ridge Bank will continue handling daily banking tasks while American Deposit Management oversees bonds related to a building project from 2018.

The board approved capital maintenance projects for 2025-2026, focusing on sustainability and infrastructure improvements. This includes energy-efficient upgrades across various district facilities.

Assistant Superintendent Jerrud Rossing presented options for Phase I of a sustainability plan aimed at achieving 100% renewable energy by 2035. The board approved solar panel installations at five schools and other energy efficiency upgrades but decided against a geothermal retrofit at Sauk Trail Elementary after a close vote.

Funding for these projects will be sourced from long-term capital funds, federal incentives, and energy savings. The board has authorized borrowing for this plan pending community feedback during a petition period.
