The winter storm affecting large areas of the ImpactLife service region has resulted in significant disruptions to blood donation efforts. On February 12, 19 blood drives were canceled due to snow and ice accumulation, leading to a projected shortfall of approximately 100 donors at Donor Centers. The total loss for that day is expected to exceed 400 donations, contributing to a cumulative total of at least 550 donations lost this month because of weather-related cancellations.
ImpactLife is urging eligible donors who can safely travel to visit nearby mobile blood drives or Donor Center locations to help offset the deficit. Interested individuals can find a donor center or mobile blood drive by calling (800) 747-5401, booking online at www.bloodcenter.org, or using the ImpactLife mobile app.
To encourage participation, all donors will receive a voucher redeemable for an electronic gift card, charitable donation, or points in the Rewards Store.
February is recognized as Heart Health Awareness Month, and ImpactLife emphasizes the importance of blood transfusions for patients with heart disease. Renee Brown, a critical care nurse working with cardiac patients at Carle Health Methodist Hospital, highlights the "amazing" improvements observed in heart patients after receiving transfusions.
ImpactLife's mission focuses on saving lives through donor engagement and medical advancement.
