Nine new recruits will join the Janesville Police Department in the next few months.
Rep. Bryan Steil thanked the recruits for joining the force as the force needed to fill some spots.
"Thank you for stepping up to serve our community," Steil said in a Twitter post.
The recruits were sworn into the Janesville PD in July before starting their academy training in the first week of August, according to the Gazette Xtra.
The local police force said this comes at the right time as these officers were a needed addition to the community.
The force has been missing officers for quite some time, mostly due to multiple recent retirements of seasoned officers, according to the Gazette Xtra.
The nine recruits, with achievements and degrees ranging from criminal justice to forensics to criminology, will complete the academy and field training before starting the job in 2022, according to the City of Janesville.
The city said that the recruits started on July 26 but will have to successfully complete their academies before they start going out into the community.
Previous jobs the recruits came from include a high school sports coach, an account manager, a custom protection officer and a parking enforcement officer.
