The University of Wisconsin-Madison recently announced that it has an overall 90% vaccination rate on campus for students, faculty and staff members.
UW Madison has reported that, as of Sept. 1, approximately 88% of total students and 92% of on-campus employees have been been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
"Thank you @UWMadison @UWBadgers for doing your part to #StopTheSpread," Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway wrote in a Sept. 2 Twitter post.
Notably, UW Madison achieved this high vaccination rate, which is on par with other big 10 schools, without a vaccine mandate.
“I’m proud of our students and employees for taking this important step to protect themselves and others. And I’m grateful to our staff, who worked tirelessly to achieve these results,” Chancellor Rebecca Blank said in a statement. “Our high level of vaccination means that we have a robust level of protection on campus and fewer members of our community will experience severe infections caused by COVID-19, compared to areas with lower vaccination rates.”
Dane County, the county were UW Madison is located, has significantly high rate of vaccination with 69% of the population fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The university requires that unvaccinated campus members be tested weekly for COVID-19.
