Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is raising awareness for National Energy Efficiency Day, which took place on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
The mayor already has several energy saving programs in place with the goal of reducing Madison’s emissions by nearly half by 2030.
"TODAY is National #EnergyEfficiency Day! #Madison has taken the pledge to #SaveMoney, #CutPollution & #CreateJobs by cutting energy waste," Rhodes-Conway wrote in an Oct. 6 Twitter post.
Rhodes-Conway recently proclaimed that Madison would participate in National Energy Efficiency Day.
"On Oct. 4, the Energy-Saving Fair at UW-Madison took place where visitors could purchase discounted kits of supplies to help them save water and energy," according to the UW-Madison Office of Sustainability.
Earlier this year, the mayor implemented her Climate Forward plan, which sets a goal of halving Madison’s emissions by 2030. The plan includes using renewable energy to meet 100% of the municipality’s operations electricity needs, replacing the lightbulbs in streetlights with LED bulbs, replacing transit buses with electric buses and expanding the city’s green job training program, according to a press release from the city.
"We have a scientific imperative to nearly halve our emissions by 2030, and we must ramp up our work to meet that goal," Rhodes-Conway said in a statement. "Climate action about improving air quality and public health, lowering utility bills for residents and businesses and creating more opportunities for good-paying, high-quality jobs. I believe Madison is ready to accelerate climate action for the benefit of our community and our world."
