Students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison came together on Monday night for a Voterpalooza event at the Rathskeller in Memorial Union. The event, sponsored by #BadgersVote, aimed to celebrate the importance of voting and promote civic engagement ahead of the presidential primary in Wisconsin.
Amaniot Kaur, #BadgersVote Co-Lead Intern, took the opportunity to explain the referendum questions on Wisconsin's spring election ballot to attendees. Kaur's efforts were part of a larger initiative by the group to provide students with the knowledge and resources needed to actively participate in democracy.
In a display of unity and talent, members of the Madison Indie band Deep Dive performed at the event, with audience members enjoying the music and even participating in some impromptu harmonies. The community atmosphere at Voterpalooza was palpable, with students coming together to celebrate their civic duty.
The event highlighted the strong civic participation of UW-Madison students, with nearly three out of four eligible students casting a vote in the 2020 presidential election. Voterpalooza served as a reminder of the power of young voices in shaping the future through active participation in the democratic process.
