Senator Julian Bradley, along with Senator John Jagler and Representative Rick Gundrum, has introduced a bill aimed at addressing crimes committed by illegal immigrants in Wisconsin. Senate Bill 579 was presented in the Senate on Friday. The proposed legislation mandates cooperation between local law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to ensure that illegal immigrants who commit crimes are transferred into federal custody.

Senator Bradley commented on the necessity of the bill, stating, "As President Biden avoids dealing with the skyrocketing number of illegal immigrants crossing our southern border, passing this bill is the least we can do." He emphasized that "the effects of illegal immigration aren’t just felt on the border; their impact is nationwide."

The bill outlines several key measures:

- It requires local or state law enforcement to verify the lawful residency status of criminals through appropriate federal agencies.

- It mandates collaboration with federal agencies to detain individuals found to be illegally present until they can be transferred into federal custody.

- It calls for a semiannual report from the Department of Justice to provide transparency regarding the number of crimes committed by illegal immigrants in Wisconsin.
