Belleville School District recently issued the following announcement.

As our high school seniors prepare to take the next step of their journey beyond the walls of Belleville High School this upcoming weekend, our 4K students have been taking “journeys” of their own this year under the direction of their teacher Marsha Rear.

Our Belleville Elementary Students (BES) 4K students have been enjoying a fun unit called "Journeys,” and it continues to be a favorite unit for this age group each year! The unit focuses on how “journeys” have the ability to take us to a variety of places: near/far, small/big, new/old, repeated/one time only, and real/imaginary. Children often think journeys are trips that have to be a vacation by car or plane, but really a journey can be ANYWHERE they go.

This special unit is used to help students learn more about the places they can visit right in their hometown. 4k kids look at maps of Belleville and note special features-- street signs, road names, and places they have visited in town. Students also focus on different modes of transportation and become familiar with which ones go in the air, by land, or in the water. During this unit, students have visited multiple places around town-- either on a bus or by walking. Students then used their “travels” as the basis for writing projects and doing drawings when they settled back in the classroom.

The students love not knowing where they are going until they arrive! It’s been a unit filled with surprises to delight and wonder-- all the elements that keep education and learning an exciting experience!
