Madison Area Technical College issued the following announcement on Nov. 19
This year's Embrace Your Fashion show at Madison College will have a special guest.
Alok Vaid-Menon is an American writer, performance artist and media personality who is gender non-conforming and transfeminine. Alok uses poetry, comedy, drag, lecture, sound-art, fashion design and social media to explore themes of gender, race, trauma, belonging, and the human condition.
"Fashion is one of the ways in which we share our identities," said instructor Betty Hurd. "This fashion show embraces exploring the individual fashion identity of each participant along with their story."
This is the fifth year the college has put on the fashion show. It's scheduled for Monday, Nov. 22, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Truax room D1630. Alok is scheduled to do a live performance and book signing from 1 to 2 p.m. The fashion show is free and open to the public, but folks are encouraged to register on Eventbrite.
