Students from two schools in Madison were forced to evacuate this week following a bomb threat to the district.
A report by NBC 15 states both schools were evacuated shortly before 11 a.m. when the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) learned of what was described as a “detailed bomb threat.”
“We are very proud of all our scholars who did an excellent job following safety procedures making this unexpected transition as smooth as it could be,” MMSD spokesperson Tim LeMonds told NBC 15.
Jefferson Middle School students were taken to John Muir Elementary, while Memorial High students were evacuated to West Towne Mall, NBC 15 reported.
Citing an incident report from the Madison Police Department, NBC 15 reports officers are now working to determine where the threat originated, after a man called Dane County dispatchers that morning claiming he had placed multiple bombs near Vel Phillips Memorial High School.
After officers and K-9 units swept both schools searching for any suspicious items, an all-clear was given around 1:20 p.m, the report states. At that time, nothing suspicious was found at either of the affected facilities.
