Food scraps recycling drop-off begins at the West Community Market on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Individuals may drop off certain allowable food scraps at a designated booth for free. This is the third farmers market drop-off location residents can choose from when disposing of food scraps for composting.
The market is located within the Research Park area near the intersection of Mineral Point Rd and S. Whitney Way. The actual address of the market is 505 S. Rosa Rd. Food scraps drop-off will be available from 7:00 am until 12:30 pm every Saturday starting on July 20, 2024, and ending on October 5, 2024.
The acceptable food scraps in this program are similar to those suitable for a backyard compost bin. Coffee grounds, eggshells, raw fruits and vegetables, and other similar scraps are allowed. However, meat, bones, compostable plastics, paper products, grease, fats, oils, dairy products (including cheese), baked goods or pastas cannot be accepted.
Additional details about what can and cannot be accepted at the food scraps drop-off site can be found on the Streets Division’s Food Scraps website. Staff at the food scraps drop-off tent will also provide guidance about acceptable materials.
More information about food waste prevention, food donation, and food scraps recycling can be found at www.cityofmadison.com/FoodScraps.
