The Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) Goodman-Rotary 50+ Fitness Program is marking its 30th anniversary.
The Goodman Rotary 50+ Fitness program, designed for adults aged 50 and above in the Madison area, offers life-enhancing exercise opportunities at an affordable cost. The program began in 1994 with an initial gift from Irwin D. and Robert A. Goodman. The philanthropists partnered with the Downtown Rotary Club of Madison, which manages the endowment fund, and MSCR, which runs the program. This funding helps MSCR keep fees affordable for high-quality activities aimed at older adults.
Currently, the MSCR program serves more than 9,000 adults annually, ranging from very active individuals to those with physical limitations. It offers over 130 fitness and health classes year-round in various formats: indoor, outdoor, and virtual. Classes include aqua fitness, balance enhancement, cardio dance, chair fitness, Concept2 rowing, gentle exercise, Pilates, strength training, Tai Chi, walking, and yoga.
To commemorate this milestone celebration, MSCR interviewed staff and participants and created a video highlighting their experiences.
