Police have designated the southwest side of Madison to be at risk after a string of burglaries, according to a report by the Wisconsin State Journal.
Police Captain Tim Patton also stated that the area has been classified as a high-risk area for break-ins and that his team would significantly boost enforcement to prevent further crime in the area.
“You’re undermining people’s safety in the place that they should feel the most safe,” Patton told Channel 3000 in a statement to the perpetrators.
According to police, at least four burglaries transpired between 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday in the 5400 block of Dorsett Drive and the 5200 block of Hammersley Road.
Some homeowners in the area reported their bicycles as stolen, while others claimed minor damage to their property as a result of forced entry.
Due to the close proximity and timing of the burglaries, police believe they are linked and have started advising neighbors to exercise extra caution while they investigate.
