On Tuesday, Governor Evers unveiled his budget proposal for the next two years. The plan includes tax increases on manufacturers and a notable rise in government spending. In reaction to this proposal, Scott Manley from Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce issued a statement.
“Governor Evers’ budget is an attack on small businesses, manufacturing, and the middle class," Manley stated. He expressed concern over taxing manufacturing production in Wisconsin during a time when increasing domestic production is essential. Manley also criticized the proposed increase in personal income tax, which he noted would primarily affect small businesses despite a $4 billion budget surplus. This move aims to support what he described as a "reckless twenty-percent increase in government spending."
Manley further commented that taxing small businesses and jobs in manufacturing contradicts efforts to alleviate financial pressures on families. He emphasized that WMC intends to collaborate with lawmakers to oppose these proposals and instead pursue tax reforms aimed at enhancing Wisconsin's competitiveness and prosperity.
